Shipping Lane Pollution
Josh Spires | 07 November, 2022 | Use Cases
Shipping lanes are some of the busiest transportation thoroughfare thanks often being safe, direct, and an economic way to transport goods around the world. As a result of being busy areas many ships navigate through them and can potentially leave waste, such as chemicals behind in the process.
Ensure ships are compliant with local laws
Ensuring ships aren't illegally dumping chemicals or waste into the water ways can be fairly hard to monitor in busy waterways. Nero's 3-metre-long hose makes this easier, allowing up to four samples to be collected on the surface or below the surface of the water.
Increase personnel safety
As Nero is a drone-based system personnel no longer need to go out in a boat, while ensuring they don't get in the way of an oncoming ship to sample specific areas. Nero's emergency release hose also ensures the drone won't be lost in the event the sampling hose was to get stuck.
Greater access to dangerous areas
Nero allows sampling access to areas of shipping lanes that are considered too dangerous for personnel to enter. Thanks to Nero's drone-based design, a sample can be collected in under a minute and the drone out of the way.
Other benefits of using Nero
- Zero infrastructure costs – As Nero is a drone-based sampling system there are zero infrastructure costs required by other non-mobile systems.
- Fast deployment – In the ever-changing environment of a shipping lane, Nero can be quickly deployed.
- Mutiple samples, one flight – Multiple samples can be taken in a single flight, making collecting samples from multiple locations easy and efficient.
